The RR Foundations Course will teach you how to organize your classes, use different lesson formats, and analyze and break down skills so you can confidently deliver strong techniques to your students. It provides a proven and recognized teaching system with RR exclusive program material and tools to teach the beginner portion of the Learn to Roll Right program (Stages 1 to 3) - Scroll down to see samples. Skip the process of figuring out what to teach and in what order. Forget having to worry about how to reward and keep your students motivated. Furthermore, get up-to-date materials and access to new programming and curriculums as they become available.

3. Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will become "Certified Coaches," qualifying you to identify yourself as a "Roll Right Certified Coach" eligible to teach the Beginner Learn to Roll Right program and have the option to continue to higher-level certifications.

4. Have your skaters join a community of other skaters supporting each other and sharing their accomplishments.

5. Coaches in good standing are members of a proven and effective skate instruction program and community. Benefits include:

   1. • Access to insurance* to rent spaces and protect yourself.

      • 1 year free RR Coach membership valid until August 31st of that year.

      • A starter set (enough for 8 students) of badges, name tags, and stickers to get your classes going. Purchase additional badge sheets at cost - we order in volume so you can enjoy the bulk savings.

      • Use our logo to promote your skate instruction

      • Ongoing support 

      • Affordable annual membership of $65 CAD (for Canadians) or $50 USD (for international coaches) when you renew before August 31st.

• For USA members - $365 USD/year

What's Required to Complete the Certification:

1. Self-Study: Prepare to complete 3 to 8 hours (depending on your pace) of online self-study material. 

• You will need access to a printer

2. Live Training Sessions: 

• After the self-study activities are submitted, there will be three 2 to 2.5-hour meetings to learn how to use the program. (Rolla Club and Skate IA certified instructors will only have two meetings, which can be completed at once or separately). 

• ONLINE: You must have a flat place to skate, such as a garage, basement or living room, and access to a device that can access video calls with a stable internet connection. 

• IN-PERSON: Available in Victoria, BC, or other in-person certification arrangements are possible with a minimum number of participants. Contact us for more details. 

• Requirements: 

  • • • A flat place to skate, such as a garage, basement, backyard, or living room

      • A device that can access video calls. The screen should be large enough for you to view the instructor in order to watch and learn. The camera angle must show your whole body from helmet to skates.

      • A stable internet connection

      • Full gear (helmet, wrist guards, and elbow pads are mandatory, while knee pads are optional), toe stops (for quad and inline figure skates) or heel brakes (for inline skates), and 

      • A yoga mat to stand on with your skates

3. Teaching Assessment: Candidates are assessed on their ability to teach a lesson following our teaching rubric.

1. Skills Assessment:

You must be a RR member, and have passed LTRR Stage 4 for the Foundations Course, and Stage 6 for the Advanced Certification. If you have already been assessed by another RR coach and updated your progress online, you can skip this step.

       • Schedule Assessment - Approx. 30-60 minutes

         • • IN-PERSON: Available in Victoria, BC or Portland OR - please contact us to make arrangements.

           • ONLINE: You must have a flat place to skate, such as a garage, basement or living room, and access to a device that can access video calls with a stable internet connection. Your own screen should be large enough for you to view the instructor. The camera angle must show your whole body from helmet to skates – please ensure to test this out prior to the start of your meeting. You will need full gear - helmet, wrist guard, elbow, knee pads (optional) and heel break or toe stop. Click HERE to schedule. 

           • If you are an artistic skater or figure skater, or have a referral, it's possible you may be able to skip the assessment. Please contact us to make arrangements.

2. Review the Policies & Register for the Course:

We are a professional organization that expects those who deliver our programs to adhere to strict professional standards. If there is anything you are uncertain of when reviewing the policies, please feel free to contact us. Once you have reviewed, and are satisfied with the policies and procedures and would like to proceed with the certification, submit the form to register. We will then send you an invoice. You may be asked to send verification if a discount applies.
